• What is Ablaze!?

Ablaze! Began as a vision of LCMS World Mission to involve every member of LCMS, its partner church bodies, and partner mission agencies in one focused and concentrated effort to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who do not yet know Him. By joining together in this effort, those who hear and receive the message of salvation in Christ will be transformed by it and brought into the body of Christ. And our own church body, mission, organizations, and congregations will be strengthened as members grow in discipleship through mission involvement to the glory and honor of our one, true God. It is the desire of LCMS World Mission to spark a mission movement of individuals, groups, and congregations that are all committed to reaching people with the Gospel.

  • What are the Ablaze! goals?

By the power of the Holy Spirit, the LCMS and its worldwide partners intend to share the Gospel with 100 million unreached or uncommitted people, including 50 million in the United States, by the year 2017, which is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Another Ablaze! goal is to plant 5,000 new congregations worldwide including 2,000 of them in the United States as well as revitalize another 2,000 congregations here in the United States.

  • What are the Four Mission Arenas?

The book of Acts records Jesus’ last appearance to His disciples, including His final words before returning to Heaven: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8) Acts 1:8 is also a pointer for Christ’s church today. We can see Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, and the ends of the earth as three general categories of people to whom we are to witness.

    • Jerusalem: Reaching Those Nearby Who Are Like Us
    • Judea: Reaching Those Further Away in Physical Distance
    • Samaria: Reaching Those Further Away in Cultural Distance
    • Reaching the Ends of the Earth
